My Experience with Venice.ai as a Free User
I'm a Frequent User of Generative AI models such as ChatGPT. The ability to have the world's information to draw from and have answers in any style I prefer, while also having a coding assistant. It's a dream come true!
However, not all is perfect. ChatGPT is a very biased model. OpenAI has trained it to have American standards that sometimes clash with my culture. I think it's objective enough in most cases, so I still use it. I'm always looking at alternatives, though. Not all LLMs are created equal, and while ChatGPT is the most powerful one I can access for Free, it's not always the best for all of my usecases.
One alternative I looked at is installing Local Models on my machine. I have a weak computer, 16GB RAM and no dedicated GPU, so the best I could do is to download quantatized models with low Parameters. While I managed to get them to work, they weren't very usable unless I wanted something small, and non-specific. It's still fine for when I don't have internet access, though.

Another alternative I found is Venice.ai. A generatie AI website that focuses on Privacy. They offer a selection of Large Language Models, including ones with uncensored outputs. It provides Text, Image and Code generation models. Some of them are only for members with the paid plan.
One of Venice.ai's selling points is how it doesn't store any Prompt or Response data from its users. It's all stored on the user's browser!
ChatGPT and many of the other alternatives are known for using Prompt & Response data for AI training, so you shouldn't use any critical information with them. That's not an issue with Venice.ai. (Provided that you trust them to keep their words. You can't be too sure nowadays.)
Venice.ai always keeps its models updated, but it also has a habit of retiring models when better ones come out. For example, they replaced Nous Theta 8B with Llama 3.3 70B as their main model. They'll also retire Hermes 3 8B model soon. Their most uncensored model Dolphin 72B and largest model Llama 3.1 405B are both locked behind Pro Subscription!
The Free text generation models are very good. The fact that they're private makes this platform a great alternative for ChatGPT. Of course, the results might not be very sophisticated, but they are very accurate for a Free tool. Especially in summarization!
The Free image generation models weren't very good. At least compared to websites with dedicated image-generation models that I tried, like Ideogram. Maybe the Pro models would be better, but I dunno.
Finally, I wouldn't expect the coding models to be strong enough for any coding job I have, so I'll stick to ChatGPT for coding now. At least until Claude becomes availble in my country.
There are still some features that I haven't tried. The support of document uploads, (text documents and PDFs,) is a big one. I just didn't need to use it yet. I also would like to test the Pro plan, maybe for a month, unless I find a better alternative.
All in all, I'd love to learn more about Generative AI, and find better tools. Until then, have a nice day, and see you in another article. إن شاء الله.
Salam (peace.)
