How to Kill a Blockchain...?

Earlier today, I saw a question asking "How could a blockchain die or if it could last forever?" Nothing lasts forever, but I hope blockchain technology lasts for a long time... Still, I think there are a few ways blockchain might die, I'll talk about them below!

All Nodes Offline

One way a blockchain stops is if every single computer running its nodes stopped somehow, or if all of them were cut off from the internet. That's unlikely, but who knows what'll happen in the future.

Technology Advancements

Another way a blockchain could die is if some new technology made the blockchains (or their encryption methods) obsolete.

For example, a Quantum Computer can solve Bitcoin's "Proof-of-Work" algorithm instantly, but it's only theoretical so far.

Maybe a new technology could be used on HIVE to reverse engineer users' private keys or decrypt all the encrypted Memos.

If no hardfork came to solve these problems, the blockchain would die. Even if a hardfork came to solve it, the damage might be already done to many user accounts making the blockchain lose its value.

Hostile Takeover

Speaking of hard forks, a person or group could gain control of most of the stake or mining computation power of a blockchain. Then they'll be able to do whatever they want with the blockchain's data.

This is only a problem if that person/group wants to sabotage the blockchain, and it's not as serious as the other ways above. The community is free to fork the blockchain at any time. Still, the "original" blockchain can become as good as dead.

What do you think?

These are my thoughts about the question, I think there are other ways for a blockchain to die, but they're unlikely, so I hope we don't see them. Nothing lasts forever, so let's enjoy HIVE as long as it exists!

Thanks for Reading~
