Cocoyam Stems Best For Planting
Cocoyam is part of African food that's whitish and some mixed with brown. The food is well planted and grown in Africa especially within the Igbo tribe in Nigeria. We love eating cocoyam because it can easily be planted and grow very fast. The kind of soil we have in Igbo land is very favorable for cocoyam planting because of the swamp we have.
Cocoyam is best planted during the rainy days because it requires water from the soil to germinate and to keep growing. Already cocoyam tubers has drawings water which is part of the reason is needs water from the soil to survive. Any cocoyam that's planted during the dry season may not survive because the soil will be very hurt causing harmful for it to germinate. Too much sun during the dry season usually makes the soil to be very hurt and when cocoyam is planted it'll kill the cocoyam tuber that was planted.
They're different ways cocoyam can be planted and such need to be done during the raining period so that when it comes to the dry season it'll be the time for harvesting. Some farmers usually plant cocoyam using only the cocoyam tuber. Any cocoyam planted with its tubers only usually takes a lot of time to germinate from the soil and some times may not even survive.
To get the best results for cocoyam planting it should be done with its stem because it won't take time to geminate. To plant a cocoyam to our farm using its stem we can only get what we want by preserving a cocoyam stem during the dry season. We'll have to store a good cocoyam we harvested during the dry season in a good temperature not too hurt or cold. Before the rainy period, the preserved cocoyam will start to shootout and when the rainy season eventually takes place the cocoyam preserved tubers will be growing from the preserved places.
To plant the cocoyam stems, the cocoyam which produced the stems will have to be intact with the stems. We'll have to remove the leaves of the cocoyam stems and leave only the stems. We'll then plant the cocoyam tuber with its stems. Planting a cocoyam tuber that has its stem will help the faster the germination process and growth of the cocoyam.
