You Gotta Change With The Seasons

On the day after Boxing Day, the 27th of December, I went to the supermarket to grab some supplies. I almost laughed out loud when I walked past the greeting card isle. Ever so swiftly the cards have been swapped out and the theme already changed. I'm always amazed how quickly this is done. On the 15th of February, the cards will suddenly become "Mothers' Day" cards.

As a content creator and marketing affiliate, I have to keep seasonality in mind too. I have learnt this over the years. Not only do I have to keep the seasons in mind, I have to create content for the upcoming season now. So, for example, right now we are in new year season which involves resolutions, fitness equipments, diaries, organisers and so on. I should have already created that content way back in November though. Doing it now is too late. I should be making content for Spring time now, including home DIY content, travel content and gardening content.

Videos are very seasonal. I've noticed a sudden uptick in the views on my videos that have [2004] in the title since the algorithm ranks them higher now. People are also including that string in their search phrases. For gadget reviews, for instance, people want the latest info so reviews made this week cary more weight with the viewer than those from several months ago.

This channel is so close to monetisation now. Another 175 subscribers to go! At the rate it's growing, I will probably hit the target by the end of this month, especially if I actually upload regularly on there. I've tried pushing it by asking people to subscribe but I've realised you either have to pay for followers, or just let the thing grow organically. The irony is, I have a very popular video on there right now that would have made the money back within a month, but I just feel some kind about paying for followers, so I'd never do that. Who knows, maybe a video will pop off in the next few days and I'll wake up to a monetised channel :)
