The M1 chip revolutionised the Macs. It made the machines more efficient and less energy hungry - which allowed, ironically, for more energy hungry things to be done more efficiently on the macs. Suddenly video editing and processing of ultra-high resolution photos were are breeze on relatively low-end machines like the M1 MacBook Air.

That's the one I have - the MacBook Air, released in 2020. It replaced the slightly more powerful M1 Mac Mini that I had prior and sold on eBay. The MacBook is a better choice for me and the slight reduction in power was more than compensated for by the portability.

My brother has the more powerful MacBook Pro version, with the same chip, but with more juice in the memory and processing units (CPU and GPU). The display is also a little brighter on the MacBook Pro. It also comes with a touchbar which was perceived differently by different people. Some loved it, some hated it.

Both machines are about 4 years old now so they represent a good budget buy for people looking to buy a cheaper mac - either refurbished from a dealership or peer-to-peer from someone selling theirs. In this video I compare both machines to help with that decision.

The channel is getting closer to monetisation. At the point of writing this, it's at 865 subs. It's on the trajectory to be monetised by the end of next month, unless I get a surge of subs from somewhere. I think I've mastered how to get views on YouTube, but subs are so hard to get. The YouTube frontend has changed so much over the years that it isn't really necessary to subscribe to a channel anymore to see the videos. I think this is why people don't subscribe anymore. However 1000 subs are required to be monetised via the YouTube partner program. Perhaps one day they'll change that
