In response to HiveGhana's weekly engagement W8; ''The global village, as we like to refer to the world now, is becoming a competitive ground now; there happen to be some skills sets, certifications, and other stuff that could help make one stand out and give you a competitive edge on the job market''.

In today's world, Information Technology (IT) has exposed numerous skills and certifications that are in demand. Apart from our degrees, there are skills that will give us a better edge in the global market that were not taught in our higher institutions.

IT involves various technologies and applications that facilitate the storage, retrieval, transmission, and manipulation of data for different purposes. it evolves around everything related to computers and technology used in organizations, businesses, and our everyday life.

Areas in IT;
Hardware,
Software,
Networking,
Data Management,
Cybersecurity,
Web Development,
Application Development
Cloud Computing,
System Administration,
IT Support.

However, all the areas mentioned above have skills and professional certifications, and they are always in demand and sought after in various industries and overseas. This is what happened to Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) in Nigeria, where 80% of their IT guys relocated due to the demand for the skills and certifications they have. This led to a glitch in their service because after they left, it was difficult to get new people with all these skills on board because there are few and rare people who have these skills.

Remote working has changed the business market forever. Then came the pandemic - and it turned out how much businesses can save on this and it's not such a big problem to meet at the 'zoom' instead of the office.

And if you don't have to sit in an office - it doesn't matter where you work from:)

IT was the first to adopt this scheme and is at the very front of the pack. It is therefore worthwhile to dig into the subject and see if it is not worthwhile to retrain or simply have an additional skill in the back of your mind. World nearly does not have corners without wi-fi these days, so there is always potential for a job for us out there:)

Important topic, very nicely presented :)
