Blockchain and Intellectual Property: Protecting Digital Content
As the growth of the digital world continues to grow, we begin to see the need for the creators to continue coming with a lot of ways to tackle the challenges that is coming their way and one of the constant challenges that I will say creators are facing are intellectual property. We have different contents like the digital assets, we have the sharing and the modification and many more. Most of the time, those intellectual property are having issues with copyrigh law, trademark and many more.
Coming to understand the intellectual property in the digital age, I will start by establishing that intellectual property means the creation of art work, symbols and generally literary works. It helps to showcase creativity and helps to spread innovation. Over the years, digital content have been facing issues in the sense that the traditional digital contents can easily be copied and even altered. I mean that is before the introduction of the Blockchain technology.
So most of the time, content creators always find it hard to even protect their ownership and piracy became the order of the day. But with the introduction of Blockchain which helps to secure data in an immutable way, it helps data to be so secured in a way that it can not be altered or even copy and so helps to protect digital contents from been copied or been pirated.
Talking about some key elements that Blockchain have which helps it to thrive on the digital Content, the first is the Decentralised nature it has. What do I mean by that? With it been Decentralised in nature, you are so sure that your records, transactions or contents created on the Blockchain is so transparent to be seen and this helps creators to register their digital assets without the fear of it been pirated or the content to be misused.
One of the things that I have also come to discover is that Blockchain helps you to be able to track the usage of the digital assets and this makes it easy to be able to notice any unauthorised uses on those contents. With that, creators are rest assured that their artwork, property or contents cannot be used anyhow without their own awareness.
I will also like to talk about the Tokenisation of digital assets. Tokenisation of asset is the process on which every asset is been represented on the Blockchain as ownership towards a particular creator. Tokenisation can happen either on digital art, music and other digital contents you can imagine of. One of the ways Tokenisation happens is through the use of Nfts.
