My Garden Layout
Good morning, it's a wonderful day here in Nigeria. The rains have been falling for some days now. And this is the joy of every farmer, to have the rains to water our Gardens. My favourite feature in my Garden is the stream flowing with water at the back of my Garden. This is because it forms the bedrock of all the operations on the farm.
The water from the stream is used to water the Garden, it also serves as a source of drinking water for the farm animals. The stream has made my Garden ever-green.
"The Garden reconciles human art and wild nature, hard work and deep pleasure, spiritual practices and the material world. It is a magical place because it is not divided, " Thomas Moore.
I have been enjoying my garden because I get to see the reward of my labour. The fowls lay eggs, one per day. The vegetables are harvested and used in preparing soups, salads etc.
" No occupation is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth, and no culture is comparable to that of the Garden" by Thomas Jefferson.
The hardships in Nigeria gathered momentum between 2012 and 2023, the new Nigerian president, Tinubu removed the controversial petroleum subsidy in June 2023. Since then everything has failed, with the high cost of living. Thus bringing economic hardships to Nigerians. This also affected the cost of farm produce, This made many families including myself resort to a mini farm, any piece of land left unattended to was turned into a farm. When the government has laughed off the awkward plight of the people. Since this period I have been engaging in mixed cropping.
Then along with it, I rear some farm animals, like goats and fowl. The droppings from the birds and manure from the goats are used as fertilizer for the farm. I use a knapsack sprayer and water from the stream at the back of my Garden to irrigate the farm. This source of water is small though but it gives me so much joy. I went there this morning and the serene and cool atmosphere it provides makes my garden an interesting place to be.

I'm pretty sure that water from the stream would be used to water the other part of your garden. You are so lucky to have a garden like this most especially the one close to stream.
Yes, I am really lucky, because lots of people are looking for a source of water to irrigate their garden but mine is just near my garden.

Fantastic! It's really intersting to see people's gardens and to learn about the importance of gardens in Nigeria. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks for the encouragement
It is wonderful that you have a stream to irrigate your plants. You also have not only vegetablebut also animal to be self sustaining -that is amazing.
Wow, a personal stream in the garden? How cool!!! 😎
