Manga Mondays #18: Share Some Manga Recommendations

avatar

mangamondays.png

It's a new weekly series like AskAnime where I ask for Manga recommendations. I binge read a lot of manga so I tend to run out of titles on a weekly basis so it'd be great if you guys can give me some recommendations.

#mangamonday18

Suggest a manga that is somehow set in a non-Japanese culture. This could be any genre, ongoing or completed.

Mechanics:

  1. Entry can either be a comment under this post or a separate post with a hashtag #mangamonday18. Please note the number "18" at the end of the hashtag is an indicator of the week number and it'll help me search for recent entries on the succeeding weeks. Making a separate post is preferred but settling for a comment is fine too.
  2. If you make a separate post about the recommendation, you don't need to specify that it's "Manga Monday Contest Entry 18" or something along those lines, just post it like any regular review post on the community. This isn't a formal contest as the criteria is just looking recommendations to read about.
  3. Reblogs or upvotes are appreciated but not necessary. Just comment the recommendation or make a post about the manga, that'd be fine.
  4. It doesn't necessarily have to be a manga, it can be a manhwa or manhua.
  5. If you already made a post about your recommendation, let's say a manga review posted months to years ago, drop it here as an entry.
  6. You can do multiple entries in the comments or post but bear in mind that if you shill me a bucket list of titles, I'd probably ignore it.
  7. Community mods will be curating the entries for engagement. This doesn't mean big votes, we could just be handing out Hive tips for those that engage more just as what we do on AskAnime weekly.

This is slightly off topic.

I'm a bit obsessed with my little project. I originally wanted to create a webcomics, but I now going with it as a graphic novel. (Less drawing, more text). But I think a manga version would be nice...

Black Butler is the first one that comes to mind. Absolutely loved it that it was set in England. Big up to us!
Also for good measure Hellsing has to be recommended as well. Both amazing Manga's and Anime's.

I watched Hellsing and it was damn fine that I wanted more adventures from it. I don't know about Black Butler, and I may try it when it's story has concluded or something. I just don't like a lot of open ended shows.

I have lost access to all my Manga apps so apart from these, I have no ideas on other good ones sadly

For this #mangamonday18 I recommend reading the Berserk manga.

Berserk is set in a medieval era, perhaps in Europe. Berserk is a very beautiful and dark manga filled with action panels and some sentimental ones that hit the heart very hard.

If you haven't seen it, I recommend dropping everything you're reading and going on its quest quickly. You won't regret it.

By the way, I recently downloaded an ending theme from its anime. I'll just tell you that I cried at the lyrics. 😭

As popular as Berserk is, I have yet to start the series. there's something about long standing series with long hiatus that puts me off from committing since I don't like cliff hangers. But it's a must watch title alright.

You probably knew this manga since it is situated in the same universe as Bleach, tho it isn't in Japan. Burn the Witch happened somewhere in Europe (where witches thrive)—Reverse London (if my memory serves me right). Also, I know you don't like sports anime, but this is one of the first mangas I've read since then, and it's one of Inoue-sensei's manga (so I guess it's worth the mention). Buzzer Beater setting is really not the usual one because it's somehow intergalactic, tho the story takes place on Earth—precisely New York. Like Burn the Witch, I think it's kinda a one-shot story as well.

Still waiting for a burn the witch sequel that may come a few more years before any of it gets announced. As for the sports title, I never heard nor search for those stuff.

I'm also looking forward to its sequel, and yeah—discovering Buzzer Beater was also something that I've stumbled upon because I still got sepanx after finishing the SlamDunk manga way back then ahahahha...

I'm not a big fan of this title, but I can praise it for its original idea, style and quality of workmanship. This is the Land of the Lustrous. This manga takes place theoretically on Earth, but in practice it could be any other world. The heroines of this anime are creatures made of glass. Their main task is to live peacefully, philosophize on various topics and fight against legions of enemies, known here as Lunarians. They want to turn their corpses into, for example, jewels. The bodies of these women and their sensitivity to impact are nicely presented. Sometimes, in turn, the glass structure was an advantage when the threat was not dangerous to the glass.

Monster by Naoki Urusawa. It's a mystery manga set in Germany although the MC is Japanese. The same author also wrote Pluto, an adaptation of Astroboy.
