"It's not a cyberattack" and "a fix has been deployed" was the statement that came out a few minutes ago from Crowdstrike CEO, the company that offers cyber-attack security services to some of the most "relevant and renowned" companies worldwide.
Banks, trains, flights, and even the London Stock Exchange were halted for hours due to a malfunction in the security program offered by Crowdstrike. I imagine it's not fun to be unable to access your funds or be stranded at an airport because of software failure.
We live in the technology era, and sometimes this is the price we pay for it. Instant access to information and the ability to transfer data globally are crucial for society. I'm not against "analog" methods, but we had to rely more on software to get to this point.
I'm engaging with you through this post via software, and the key difference between Hive and centralized network systems is that you can't shut down the former as easily. It's almost impossible to locate and shut down all the witnesses supporting the network.
The situation with Crowdstrike occurred during an election year, when a U.S. presidential candidate changed their stance 180 degrees and became a pro-crypto, pro-Bitcoin advocate. As Bitcoin and crypto gain mainstream acceptance, we realize that the world needs more decentralized networks like Bitcoin and Hive.
Yesterday, WazzirX was hacked, and the culprits, believed to be from North Korea's Lazarus group, reportedly stole around $250 million. It's ironic that the most isolated country in the world has some of the world's best hackers. WazirX, like Crowdstrike, is a centralized entity, proving the importance of decentralization.
As an avid internet user, I'm grateful for the opportunities the internet has provided. Almost two decades ago, I was sending resumes via fax machine to find work; now, I can work remotely using the internet. Some have even managed to build successful careers online.
You shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket, which is why we need more decentralization across various aspects of life. Only through true decentralization can your vote count, prevent vote theft, and protect freedoms like freedom of movement and information.
Years ago, parents used to say that children who grew up playing sports were better off than those glued to computers. In today's digital age, that's no longer true.
While some networks are down, Bitcoin continues to operate, demonstrating its resilience and showing that it's here to stay, regardless of current price fluctuations and volatility.
Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but isn't the timing it a bit peculiar ?
News breaks that Austin Wealth Management (a Blackrock company) shorted a billion dollars of Trump shares the day before an assassination attempt, and then reversed the transaction claiming it was an error shortly after the attempt failed (I wish I could get my money back if a lottery ticket fails to win...). Shortly after an outage happens that (among other things) takes out news companies and ISP's, apparently due to a software problem at CrowdStrike (a Blackrock company).
If I was suspiciously inclined, I might almost think that they wanted to kill the news and put something else in the headlines.
I heard something about the shorting thing but did not actually put all the dots together. Great find.
The need for decentralized systems is clear after seeing how a single software failure can disrupt so much. We definitely need decentralization man
