Decebalus Face(The Biggest Rock Sculpture in Europe) and The Danube's Whirlpools

It's fascinating how one person can leave a lasting impact on a place and attract tourists from around the world. Iosif Constantin Dragan, a billionaire historian, is responsible for creating the largest rock sculpture in Europe – the Decebalus face.

Located in the Danube's Whirlpools area, this colossal project took ten years to reach 70% completion before being abandoned in 2004 due to lack of funding. However, Dragan had already invested around $1 million into the project by then.

Despite its incomplete state, the sculpture is still impressive, standing at 50 meters high and 25 meters wide. Thanks to this attraction, the Danube's Whirlpools area now welcomes hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. When I was a teenager, the road leading there was virtually empty; nowadays, it's bustling with cars and people.

I enjoy visiting the Decebalus Face as often as possible, especially during summer months. Recently, I spent an hour in the area, savoring a refreshing orange juice at a local restaurant before heading back home.

The Danube's Whirlpools area got its name from the striking water effects created by strong currents hitting the rocks – resembling whirlpools. Unfortunately, this time of year, the waters and roads are crowded with tourists. Although it can be frustrating, I still recommend visiting Decebalus Face, especially by boat.
