Science has the potential to destroy us.

Life has gotten much better and more advanced for the pastime, all thanks to science and technology. There are a lot of inventions coming into existence over time that have been of good use to humanity. And also has little or no effect on nature.

The improved ways of calculation were through science. It made it easier for us to solve problems, mathematical problems got much easier and could be used in different fields of study. Thanks to science for bringing this to us.

Science has improved our system of transportation and communication. Gone are the days when we had to travel by foot or beasts of burden. Science brought ease, as we can now travel through the air, the sea, and on the land. The advanced way even made it faster and easier. Communication was also made easier, compared to times of the past.

Though there are some backsides of science on humanity and some damages it has caused upon us. When we talk about transportation, in the past people hardly got into accidents by walking on their feet or by camels and horses. But in recent times with science in the picture, a lot of accidents have downed upon us which brought about the loss of lives.

In the agricultural system. There are great improvements and this shows the importance of science in almost every field. Agriculture has become easier, the use of planters, ridges, harvesters, tractors, and many more agricultural machinery and equipment are results of science.

But thereafter times when these scientific experiments and advancements become a blow to our face. They come about with their disadvantages. For example, the exhaust from machinery and industrial machines causes pollution to the ecosystem thereby destroying the ozone layer. All of these are some of the backside of science

Yet another importance of science is the aspect of health and medicine. Science and advanced technology have made it easier to operate and diagnose humans and detect possible defects in the body system. Made it easier and faster to save lives. Science has brought about the use of X-rays, and surgical tool sets.
The medical transformation has gone beyond human physiology alone but branched across anatomy, pathology, biochemistry, microbiology, and many more fields. We have science to thank for these advancements.

But hasn't science gone way too far beyond the merits and demerits it brought upon us?

Science has gone too far in its way of making life better thereby tampering with the existence of nature in its natural state. Some aspects where I feel science going too far is the aspect of Human Cloning and Artificial Intelligence

Cloning is producing similar organisms asexually from a parent stock and they remain genetically identical as they can be replicated. Not only humans are getting replicated but animals also. Nature decides what has been made and what to be made, it decides what dies and what to be reborn. This is a natural thing and humans are just a part of it.

Cloning is like trying to take over from nature, by determining how much humans would exist and when they should exist, which is getting way beyond humans' capabilities. Nature decides as it has survived human wars and harsh weather conditions. The war against nature will always end in defeat.

Artificial intelligence is another way Science has been trying to trespass. To think they can control human-like creations, make them have human intelligence, recognize speech, and transmit and translate languages though it seems like it comes with a good handful of advantages. However, these artificial robots are gradually taking over human functions and abilities.

One way science could go too far with this is that, with time all of these robots since they are less susceptible to disease and injury unlike humans, but can perform human functions, they could gradually make humans obsolete and rise up against the human race.

Science should know its bounds and not interfere too much with nature and what God has created. The advantage of science is well appreciated but going too far is something that would bring harm to humanity.

This is my response to the hive learners community weekly featured content on Hive for the week 111 edition 2 and the topic to be discussed is SCIENCE TOO FAR

Science and technology are now more advanced than they were iñ 20th centuries. Cloning and other modern technology tools are making life easy but AI can be dangerous in the coming era.

You are right I agree to that. And if care is not taken it might get out of hands and controlling that might become so hard.

In some years to come, the world would just be something else. As for cloning, I’m always wondering what our future will look like cos it’s scary.

I understand your point of view, but we can enrich it so that it is not superficial. This entails a philosophical discussion. Science is justified knowledge and the research carried out to produce it, it has to do with discovery and understanding. There is also a dividing line between Science and Technology, the latter having to do with development and invention. In practice, it is technology that can produce means potentially capable of making us extinct.

The "Nature" and "natural" state of things is also debatable. Humans and their inventions are ultimately part of Nature itself at a deeper level. It means that whatever we do is a consequence of natural laws, hence is natural. Even if we can intervene in many natural processes to break them, speed them up, or whatever, that is still a consequence of natural laws. Many people don't think so, but Medicine is a Science/technology that does indeed "intervene in nature" very aggressively, but no one finds that terrible. The debate should ultimately be about ethics, about what can be considered ethical, not about natural and artificial.

And many other things also have the potential to drive us to extinction and chaos such as politics, ideology and religion.

This is a concept I love to delve into, and I so much like how you perceived it, wether Artificial intelligence or Natural, its still part of Natural itself, as far as it's Man's own creation,
Man's thirst for Power, can be man's fall, take for example the issue of Nuclear and Biological Weapons.

An insightful look at advances in science and technology! I agree with you about how these advances have revolutionized our lives, facilitating everything from complex calculations to global communications. However, your reflections on the ethical limits and possible negative impacts of these innovations are very pertinent. It is important to carefully consider the challenges and responsibilities that accompany these advances. Excellent reflection!

Sure science have done us good but the way am seeing science is really going out of hands if time is not taking

@jjmusa2004 had a similar viewpoint on cloning. Personally I see it's potential for replacement parts for people but am against it for creating new life just as you are.

As for agriculture, you are correct that sometimes the machines can increase productivity but at a cost. Pollution and reliance on fertilizers and fuel. I'm hoping that science can look past the industrial model of agriculture and help us with small scale, sustainable agriculture (here's looking at the science of Permaculture).

As for playing God with people and nature. I'm pretty much opposed to that. People haven't proven themselves to be responsible with ultimate power. I'm hoping humanity becomes more mature before science moves too far.....but I think that is wishful thinking :)

i don't want to imagine 'ultimate' power in the hands of men or a few 'privileged

The rich already have near ultimate power. Giving that little extra doesn't appeal to me either.
