GRADE 12 STEM- SAPPHIRE: LETTERS OF DEDICATION (S.Y. 2023-2024)
"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out." — Robert Collier
Research plays an important role in the academic world as it offers students a platform to explore, experiment and discover new knowledge. Research does not only enhances the learning experience but also contributes to the advancement of the field. Recently, five research groups composed of Grade 12 Sapphire students at Anselmo A. Sandoval Memorial National High School embarked on a journey of studying and discovering under the guidance of their subject teacher, Mr. Rodel Catajay @guruvaj .
As the students conceptualize into their respective research topics, they were met with challenges, setbacks, but results to their ultimate victories that shaped their studies and fueled their passion for learning. The five research groups explore various disciplines, from science, mathematics and engineering, and technology, each with a own perspective and approach to their research projects.
Under the leadership of Ms. Maria Francheska A. Maramot @chskmrmt ,“Bio-Flame: Sustainable Utilization of Biogas from Cow Manure and Vegetable Waste Towards Renewable Cooking Fuel Production,” a group of researchers are working on converting organic waste into bio-gas to produce renewable cooking fuel. Their research aims to reduce the environmental impact of traditional energy sources and meet the growing energy needs.
Another team, led by Ms. Sharmaine Roselle S. Sallan @sharmavii , “Innovation on Eco-Waste: Developing All Natural Fire Starter Briquettes as an Alternative for Charcoal Lighter Fluids in Collaboration with Existing Burning Blocks,” is developing all-natural fire starter briquettes to replace charcoal lighter fluids, promoting the use of natural resources and reducing environmental harm.
The third research team, led by Ms. Lara Vivienne M. Panopio @laviyen , "Kalanchoe pinnata and Cocos nucifera Essential Oil’s Application through the Investigation of Rapid Wound-Healing Activities,” is studying the wound-healing properties of essential oils from Kalanchoe pinnata and Cocos nucifera, which have shown promising results in regenerating and repairing skin.
Additionally, a group of researchers, led by Ms. Phoemela Irish G. Las Piñas @laspinas , ”Building Renewable Lightweight Brick Incorporated with Cigarette Butts and Kokonut Husks as a Subterfuge to Smear,” has created lightweight bricks using cigarette butts and coconut husks, providing a sustainable solution to building materials and waste disposal.
Lastly, a team led by Ms. Yesha Mae L. Dalisay @yeshamd , “Advancing Sustainable Alternatives to Mitigate Single-Use Product Pollution and Promote Environmental Conservation with Talahib-based Bioplastics,” is focusing on developing bioplastics from talahib grass to address the issue of single-use plastic pollution. These bioplastics are affordable, biodegradable, and contribute to environmental conservation efforts.
Through their innovative projects, these research teams are exploring sustainable solutions to environmental challenges, showcasing the potential for waste management, renewable energy, natural therapies, and sustainable building materials in creating a greener future. Throughout their research journey, the five student groups were guided by the support, guidance, and mentorship of Sir Rodel Catajay. His dedication to educating and empowering students contributes in every aspect of their research projects, from conceptualization to execution. Sir Catajay’s passion for learning and commitment to improve critical thinking and creativity inspired the students to push beyond boundaries of their research and embrace the challenges of the academic process.
Even though these researchers experienced the ups and downs of their studies, they learned valuable lessons in perseverance, collaboration, and innovation. They encountered obstacles that tested their resolve and even the setbacks that challenged their assumptions, but through it all, they remained firm with knowledge and understanding. The students’ growth and development throughout the research process lead to resilience and determination to make a meaningful study in their chosen fields.
As the research groups concluded their studies and presented their findings to their classmates and teachers, the students’ research projects were met with admiration and praise, due to their commitment to excellence and dedication. Sir Rodel stood beside his students, knowing that he had played a vital role in shaping their academic journey. Every collective efforts is significant in this academic world, and their achievements are a source of inspiration for future generations of students.
DEDICATION
The researchers wholeheartedly dedicate this to the following:
To the family and relatives of the researchers for their unending support in all aspects for the researchers to continue conducting the study, especially these research studies are dedicated to our beloved parents, who encouraged them and gave strength and hope and who have been the researchers’ source of inspiration, guide, and strength who continually gave their moral, spiritual, emotional, and financial support.
*To the research adviser, Mr. Rodel Catajay, who have shared their knowledge, effective teachings, and especially their words of wisdom throughout the study, which had a drastic significance in completing this study;
To the whole Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics community of/and Anselmo A. Sandoval Memorial National High School;
To the researchers’ friends who showed pure support which helped the researchers strive and get encouraged more to finish this important research in time;
To all aspiring researchers and to all the people who interceded for the success of this research; In the hopes that this research may somehow contribute for people to be able to alleviate the current problem with these research and thus, provide alternative ways in an eco-friendly manner.
And lastly, we dedicated this research paper to the Almighty God, special thanks and credit for the guidance, strength, power of mind, protection, and skills God provided to us. All of these, we offer to you.*
