This Is Kinda Scary...

I'm one of the weird ones....

Maybe it's because I watched one too many science fiction movies growing up, but the absolute drooling that people are doing over AI...I just don't get it.

Can it be a huge benefit for humanity?

Absolutely. But here's what scares me....Anything created for good, humans usually find a way to destroy the positives. And this post isn't about the future of AI, or anything like it...

Mainly because, the only AI I've willingly used in my lifetime is whatever is being built here on $LEO And to be honest, I still have no idea what it's supposed to do or be lol

Ignorance is bliss...Maybe?

But I was reminded of why I don't think everything created for good, turns out that way...

Let me explain:

I was driving home tonight with my mom and my son. It was getting late so we decided to stop at a Dairy Queen for some food. A quick bite, it wasn't bad actually :)

But then continuing our drive home I remembered there was a restaurant I really enjoyed right around the corner. I literally said out loud to my mom....

"We should have gone to Triple O's. That's some of the best fast food I've had in a while..."

We didn't go. We drove past it. We didn't mention or think about it again...

I get home, and poked around on Instagram later that evening and guess what shows up as a 'sponsored ad'...

I mean, this isn't any kind of revelation...We know Meta uses our phones to spy on us...But it's just scary how they listen without you knowing, to your entire conversations....Just to push their advertising to you.

What else will this mean down the road?

And people wonder why I'm super suspect about AI and how quick everyone embraces it. This is just basic tech now, spying on you, listening to your conversations....What happens when AI gets a wee bit smarter...

What will your phones be used for then?

Conspiracy theory? Maybe lol

I am just weirded out by how much control these corporations have over what we can see and be exposed to....

I think it will be or is already being for the benefit of humanity, but later it will change. Not like fighting against AI in thise movies, but replacing human in some work fields.

Yes, sometimes AI is also scary. In future we can expect so many unpredictable things. Some might be for good while some might not.

They'll sell it to us as a "feature" and folks will rush to embrace the AI powered sifting of all of their data, no doubt.

I have experienced it several times that our conversations influence the ads we get. I have experienced even the scarier things. My thoughts appear as an ad on my device. I might sound illogical or a paranoid but that's what I have experienced more than once.

We might be thinking that there is no harm in collecting our data or spying on us. After all we are not into anything questionable. But we never know what kind of an information may be utilized as a weapon against us

Technology improving is both good and bad. We have to worry about surveillance but life is also a bit easier. I don't like all the privacy being violated but I don't think that will change unless the courts crack down.

Technology evolution comes with both good and bad things. It is the humans that need to decide how they want to shape and use it... up until a certain point when AI can do that by itself. Evolution, but also scary things are at the horizon.

AI is good and bad for us which means that AI can be everything. Too much adoption of it may land all of us into problems and that’s why we have to be very careful or even extra careful

By this logic, you are saying technology is a net negative for humanity. Perhaps you would like life without the Internet or even electricity. Read through history, electricity was feared when it was being developed. Can you picture life without it?

The reality is getting your conditioning (brainwashing) from Hollywood is not a smart idea. Are you honestly going to tell me you believe in their narrative?

They can be scary, for sure. But you mentioned about smartphones listening in on conversations, which I'm sure they do. Do we give up smartphones because we like our privacy? It looks like we don't. AIs are the next step. More dangerous than smartphones, but more useful too. They will be hard to ignore.

My sister was telling me how she wants to buy a camper and now I get ads for campers, and now I know why I am getting them.

ignorance is bliss, but lack of information is utterly dangerous . What an irony!!
