Disclosure: Ai, Open-Source, and Linux | Separating Ourselves From The Clanker-Lovers
Starting with my last video I now begin my work with a No AI disclosure, and found that many other people had the same thoughts.

But because I intend to be entirely honest, and not mislead: I also added the disclaimer: (aside from research purposes).
"Why Does It Even Matter?"
When I'm on Youtube I often come across shorts or videos that are clearly using generative AI in various capacities.
Whether that's the entire video, or just the voice-over dialogue.
When I call it out in a comment I'll often get people who push back saying I'm wrong about the content being AI; which is fine.
What troubles me is when people ask "why does it even matter?"
I usually reply with a philosophical screed that goes something like this:
When it comes to the most innocuous & even innocent videos like an animal doing something cute, or even doing something extraordinary;
The authenticity and novelty of not only the animal choosing to do the act, but also the person being able to capture that moment with a lens for us all to see is the novelty and the value.
If you record a husband catching his wife in the act of cheating: there is no value if it's staged with actors. The authenticity is what gives it value.
For years people have called out faked videos and staged-events for this very same reason.
If you want to watch videos of cats playing in a marching band, that's fine.
It's the deception that really does harm to us all.
How Does Disclosing Anti-AI Actually Help?
There's a few reasons:
IDENTIFICATION:
When watching videos now I'll often be unsure, and asking myself if what I'm watching is AI because it's gotten so sophisticated when it comes to specifically: APPEARING genuine.
It used to be that I'd go to the comments, and see other people pointing to the same reasons, or even ones I hadn't noticed.
But at this point I think many of us are schizo with suspicion of most short-form media we view online.
So it's now hard to even know by checking for other people who confirm your suspicion.
ASSURANCE:
If we let people know that we are opposed to AI I think it builds a level of trust & appreciation for making that clear from the beginning.
I appreciate it when I see channels do it.
I took it a little further, and added a Made(almost)Entirely With Open-Source and Made With Linux.
I put almost because I do use VMware for testing a lot of operating systems, and I use Nvidia's proprietary drivers. I'm sure somewhere or another there's other code that's not open-source.
But my video-editor, recording tools, graphics tools, etc. are all open-source.
However, I did have some comments being upset that I mentioned 'aside from research purposes'. And I had someone call me out for using VMware which is not open-source, and that's a fair point: hence the (mostly).
But I'm not using it to cheat/shortcut my content in any way, and I think that should count for something
People can use what tools they want, but they should be up-front about them. I would rather see content from humans. I am not a bigger of 'AI' generally, but will consider it if it can make me more efficient. My creativity belongs to me though.
I am not an open source purist, but will use it where possible. With my new PC I found the Nvidia driver to be more stable than the open one. With the latter the PC was locking up every few hours, but it's rock solid with the Nvidia one.

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years

I don't think I've seen the opposite in place where someone is up front about using AI. There are many things where it's clear that AI is being used though, and it's not deceptive.
There's a lot of videos where the voice is synthesized via AI, and the words themselves are written by AI.
I could go into AI and say 'write a video narration all about Ubuntu's history', and then put that into a speech synthesis. And then perhaps just download other people's footage and edit it all together. It could be more efficient, but it's not something I really want to make.
But I also know that being able to get videos out consistently and quickly is favored by Youtube algorithm so in theory that would be a way to earn money making content. The incentives are always there.
Also with the driver issue you mentioned:
I'm using the Noveau/Gallium open driver right now because I'm on an outdated system, and I put off updates forever. I did a big update, and found I couldn't log into my desktop.
Uninstalled Nvidia driver and I can log in again with the open ones.
But I also have experienced the random lock ups with the open driver.
I'm hoping I've got it figured out now, and the next time I install them it will let me log in. I removed some packages that had some weird possible ties to Nvidia, but I'm trying to finish this video before I get back to breaking things.
With Radeon/AMD the main/official driver is the open-source one.
There is a podcast I've listened to about 3d printing where they say at the start that the audio is generated by AI. Some of those do sound fairly natural, but not quite human. I guess recording a real person is likely to take longer as it will probably need editing. All my content is from my own brain. I did use a few AI images on stuff, but I generally avoid that. I see some people mention when they do that.
I want my PC to be stable and it is now. There are limits to how much I will mess around with Linux, but I did eventually manage to sort out a Microsoft package so I could use @hivesql. That took a while.
Yeah I think a lot of those tech instructional channels use it to get around the language barriers.
The hardest part of making my videos is talking into the camera, hands down.
It's the part I dread the most too, but that's partially because I do it on the 2nd computer in the studio and every time I do it there's a whole process.
It also matters which camera I use.
But second hardest is simply recording the dialogue itself because it can come across too flat or like reading which I often am doing.
There's a long-running joke that having a British accent is a major positive for doing dialogue because so many Brits have major gaming channels etc.
And the sound of your voice is definitely a factor in the appeal of content like mine.
In the video I'm working on right now I used a website that lets you generate Keanu Reeves voice, but just so he can say "SystemD". Because I've edited in some humor based around the movie A Scanner Darkly which revolves around a drug called Substance D.
But doing it all these times, and realizing when it's not good enough is how I've gotten better. And everything else has improved with effort too. My thumbnails, my graphics etc. But I can edit and design more on a whim when I feel like it vs recording where I'm stopping everything to record.
What is HiveSQL for exactly?
I've done web dev before, and so I've managed MySQL or MariaDB and other SQL databases. Do you host your own Hive blockchain node? Is there a reward or payout of some kind for doing it?
And you mentioned figuring out Microsoft packages so does that mean you're needing to use Wine to run it on Linux? I'd think anything SQL-like would have a native Linux package.

HiveSQL is a SQL Server instance
that is kept up to date with the blockchain data so it's easy to query. @arcange runs the one I use and I'm not sure if there are others. There is also HAF that in don't fully understand, but it may also allow queries. I have also used a library for direct blockchain access, but that was slower.
I needed the MS library for the Python queries to work. They provide it for Linux.
Interesting, but what is the nature of the query?
Is this something outside of PeakD/Hive's website that you use it for?
I'm maybe not fully-aware of everything that the chain is used for.

lol not really. I actually went there before I asked.
I understand what an SQL database does, but what I'm trying to understand is what the benefits of running it locally are if you're a user.
If I were developing a Hive application I assume it would be useful, but as a regular user does it improve performance of the website if you host it yourself?
Peakd(the Hive site I use) sometimes if I want to switch nodes for performance. I've never tried it, but if I had the SQL database locally would that count as a node I could switch to?
The database is not local on my PC. I just run queries against the one hosted by that service. It is kept up to date with transactions so others will use it too for their applications. I mainly use it for the #BritList and a few other queries. It is a separate thing to the nodes that host the blockchain itself.
I just had to install the Microsoft libraries to run the queries. I have not run a server myself.

You can figure out who is British or even British ex-pat by querying the database? If so, that's kind of wild honestly. And this is what I meant when I said I don't fully understand everything about Hive and what it can do.
Just out of curiosity. Do you recall what the Microsoft libraries are? Maybe something related to .NET if I had to guess.
I have a script that looks at account profiles in HiveSQL to see if they contain UK locations. There is some manual work to check those. I put those names in a file that the other script processes to create the post by checking recent activity.
I installed msodbcsql from here. Just had to find a version that worked as there were issues with the keys.

Recently on Youtube I discovered something very distubrbing.
It was 2 young girls dressed sexually, and acting seductive.
They are clearly between 14-17 years of age, and that's bad enough.

I mean a lot of comments, and they have zero shame whatsoever.
Some of the screen names... one I remember was "Beautiful Tweenz" and their profile picture was 3 kids.
I left some comments saying how disgusting it all was, and they were arguing back with zero shame. In English and other languages.
I know that it's not the same thing as pedophilia since the girls are post-puberty, but the fact the men are so shameless about it and open about it is what's most disturbing.
