Hello everyone in the Geek Zone community! Today I bring you a new publication. This time I will be talking about one of the best applications that I have been able to find of its type so far this year. This is Slowly, a messaging application for mobile devices. And no, it is not another common application where you can find friends, send photos/videos and receive all kinds of information immediately in less than an hour. Slowly is designed for those who enjoy taking things slowly, little by little, and who dream of the times when letters were sent to communicate with others from one point to another. Letters that (knowing how long they would take) had to be thought out with care and affection. Here I tell you everything.
I discovered Slowly while browsing the Google App Store and looking for unusual apps. I was hoping to find an app where you could share your mood, thoughts of the day and that kind of stuff with your own personal friends. My find ended up being much bigger when I found Slowly. I was very interested in sending letters via the web and that each letter (depending on the travel destination) took a certain amount of time to arrive. I downloaded the application, started using it and immediately created my profile with some information: year of birth, country of origin, name or nickname, likes and interests and so on. You can also create an avatar based on your real appearance or not. That's a good thing about Slowly, try to protect your identity.

Esta vez estaré hablando de una de las mejores aplicaciones que he podido encontrar en su tipo en lo que va de año. Se trata de Slowly, una aplicación de mensajería para dispositivos móviles. Y no, no se trata de otra aplicación común dónde poder encontrar amigos, enviar fotos/videos y recibir todo tipo de información de forma inmediata en menos de una hora. Slowly está diseñada para aquellos que disfrutan tomarse las cosas con calma, poco a poco y que sueñan con los tiempos en los que para comunicarse con otros de un punto a otro se enviaban cartas. Cartas qué (sabiendo cuánto tardarían), debían ser pensadas con esmero y cariño. Aquí te cuento todo.
Descubrí Slowly mientras navegaba por la App Store de Google y buscaba aplicaciones inusuales. Yo esperaba encontrar una aplicación en la que pudieras compartir tú estado de humor, opiniones del día y ese tipo de cosas con tus propios amigos personales. Mí hallazgo termino siendo mucho más grande cuando encontré Slowly. Me llamó mucho la atención aquello de enviar cartas por vía web y que cada carta (según el destino de viaje) tardara cierto tiempo en llegar. Baje la aplicación, la comencé a usar e inmediatamente creé mi perfil con algunos datos: año de nacimiento, país de origen, nombre o apodo, gustos e intereses y demás. También puedes crear un avatar según tu aspecto real o no. Eso es algo bueno de Slowly, procura proteger tu identidad.
That does not mean that the letters are anonymous but that you have the freedom to choose whether to use your real name or not. Why is this important? because although Slowly tries to maintain a safe place and applies rules such as that it will NOT let you send videos or photographs IF the other person does not authorize it and vice versa (an important thing with respect to those who want to avoid being sent inappropriate material), it is very difficult to contain to unwanted characters. Like everything on the internet (and even in the world), Slowly does not escape those characters that occupy the application like a dating network, a quick chat for transferring numbers and social networks or something like that. Stay out of it and don't randomly give revealing information or insist on things. Keep this in mind because the vast majority of people who use this application are looking for an experience without hassle, without disrespect, or the crazy things that come with the immediacy of other applications.
To use Slowly we only have to learn to use the bar where the most important icons are. We can find new people, see our profile or let the application update new users on its own from time to time. Of course, it is not enough to complete your profile, you must write a cover letter so that others can write to you. That said, interacting with others is very easy, you just have to read their open letter (their presentation) see if they share something in common and write to them, this way you will have your first meeting. I've been using Slowly for about a week and a half and I really loved it. I have gotten several interesting people from various countries. Especially a Cuban girl with whom we shared many letters about books, movies, experiences and more.
Eso no quiere decir que las cartas sean anónimas sino qué tienes la libertad de elegir si usar tu nombre real o no ¿por qué esto es importante? porque aunque Slowly intenta mantener un lugar seguro y aplica reglas cómo que NO te dejará enviar videos ni fotografias SÍ la otra persona no lo autoriza y viceversa (cosa importante con respecto a quienes desean evitar que se les envié material indebido), es muy difícil contener a personajes indeseados. Cómo todo en el internet (y hasta en el mundo), Slowly no escapa de esos personajes que ocupan la aplicación cómo una red de citas, un chat rápido de tranferencia de números y redes sociales o algo por el estilo. Mantente al margen y no des información reveladora al azar, ni insistas en cosas. Ten en cuenta esto pues la gran mayoría de las personas que utilizan esta aplicación buscan una experiencia sin apuros, sin faltas de respeto, ni las locuras que tienen la inmediatez de otras aplicaciones.
Para usar Slowly solo debemos aprender a usar la barra donde están los iconos más importantes. Podemos encontrar personas nuevas, ver nuestro perfil o dejar que la aplicación por su cuenta refresque cada cierto tiempo nuevos usuarios. Eso sí, no basta con completar tu perfil, debes hacer una carta de presentación para que los demás te puedan escribir. Dicho esto, interactuar con otros es muy fácil, solo debes leer su carta abierta (su presentación) ver sí comparten algo en común y escribirle, así tendrás tú primer encuentro. He usado Slowly alrededor de una semana y media y la verdad es que me ha encantado. He conseguido varias personas interesantes de varios países. Sobre todo una chica Cubana con la que compartimos muchas cartas sobre libros, películas, experiencias y demás.
Additionally, Slowly has something very beautiful (I won't lie, it was part of the reason that motivated me to download it) and that is that you can collect stamps from all over the world! Which for me is a very beautiful thing, the fact that a friend from another country sent you a letter with a stamp from his country or with some other motif that he has collected. I already have some and I'm counting them. They are all a treasure. For me, this act of exchanging stamps with others implies a very significant type of complicity. Everyone has a story behind them and that is the beauty of Slowly, in a world of immediacy and knowing everything, the application invites you to take a break and do things not only calmly but with interest, affection, fullness and significantly. Además Slowly tiene algo muy hermoso (no mentiré fue en parte la razón que me motivó a descargarlo) y es que ¡puedes coleccionar sellos de todo el mundo! Lo cual para mí es una cosa muy bella el hecho que un amigo de otro país te envié una carta con un sello de su país o con algún otro motivo que haya coleccionado. Yo ya tengo algunos y los estoy contando. Todos son un tesoro. Para mí ese acto de intercambiar los sellos con otros implica un tipo de complicidad muy significativo. Todos tienen una historia detrás y es que esa es la belleza de Slowly, en un mundo de inmediatez y de saberlo/conocerlo todo, la aplicación te invita a tomar un reposo y a hacer las cosas no solo con calma sino con interés, cariño, plenitud y de forma significativa.
